Feb 6 - 12 Trinity river Fishing report

Feb 12 12 pm. Waterflows continue to be good for clarity and fishing with little to no daily fluctuations in flows at Douglas City. Temps are peaking daily around 4-5:00 pm so fishing the late afternoon should be really good and baseline temps are around 42 degrees. We do have a little system beginning to move through on Monday bringing 30% chance of snow and a night time low of 26 degrees. This should cool the river on Monday night. Tuesday night is expected to be around 19 degrees so don’t plan on fishing early unless you’re good with freezing guides etc. We may have a little wind on Monday as well. The river is pretty quiet today because of game day, but I fished for a few casts at the lodge and hit one on a golden stone.

Feb 11 10am. the lodge did get a little snow overnight and we’re having some difficult driving on passes near the lodge so please be safe. TRRP released updated winter flow information beginning on Feb 15th so please be aware of changing flows through March. I am not including an image of the flow chart in case there are changes but a link is provided. We’re expecting higher flows with peak flows from the dam around 1200 cfs occurring after Feb 20.

Current flows are still in the 500 cfs area at Douglas City and the water has decent clarity. Tens have been sliding downward for the past few days and we’re back to the 41 degree range currently. Forecast has slight chances of showers, mostly sunshine with early morning fog. Lows getting down to 26 degrees, highs in the 50’s.

Feb 8 ~ 11 pm. the river continues to maintain a flow of around 500 cfs at Douglas City and temps have come up in the last few days cycling between 42-43 degrees. Flows and temps from the dam remain constant. Thursday we’re expecting highs above 60 degrees, a first in a long time. We have one day (Friday) with a slight chance of rain but no significant rainfall is in the upcoming forecast. Besides a little wind on some days, we expect the river to remain fishable all week. Standard patterns prevail.

Feb 6 ~ 1 pm. The river remains in good shape with a little lift over the last 24 hrs from a day of rain. Today is bright and sunny and in the 50’s, probably hit the low 60’s this afternoon. We are currently in a high pressure warming trend and do not see any rain the next few days. Water temps are beginning to rise and we’re seeing the warmer water between 1 and 4:30 pm. The last few days we’ve seen clearer water towards Douglas and Junction city but all the upper river is fishable. We fished for the last few days picking up fish on swing and indicators. Most of the fish we caught were holding in deeper slower water, but there were a few fish in moving holds along seam lines and riffles. Our best period of time was between noon and 4 pm. All of the fish we caught were bright and wild. Flows at Douglas are currently hovering around 500 cfs.
