Dec 27 ~ Trinity River Fishing Report

December 27 - 6 pm. We finally received the much needed rain in the last 24 hours pushing the river from 350 cfs to over 1100 cfs in about 8 hours. As of 6 pm, the river at Douglas City has reduced back to 800 cfs. We’re looking at next few days of some significant rainfall, although it changes hourly (Wed .5”, Thurs 1.7”, Fri 1.45”, Sat .55”). The Trinity River below Indian Creek and Weaver Creek is pretty turbid, but above the lodge it’s continuing to clear. For the next few days, fly anglers are most likely going to need to push up toward Lewiston until the water clears. Tomorrow (Wednesday) anglers might have their best success either towards Lewiston or down from the Steel Bridge put in.

This is the flow we’ve been waiting for and we’re expecting this to push alot of fish into the system and also more fish to the upper sections. The current forecast show approximately .5” to 1” of rain each day for the foreseeable future with highs in the mid 40’s and lows hovering over freezing. This could be perfect weather for some great winter steelheading. We’ll keep up with the reports as the anglers come in! Please be safe, road conditions and river conditions are going to vary so please be prepared and watch that forecast!

December 28 - 9:15 am. The river at Limekiln gulch is currently at 400 cfs. Color is good. The float from Steel Bridge to Indian Creek should fish. Flows at Douglas City are 537 cfs with temps dropping below 43 degrees.

December 28 - 4:50 pm. - The river by the lodge looks really good. It’s got a little color but visibility is fine. Flows have come back into range, around 500 cfs and temps around 43 degrees. We’re expecting a nighttime low around 37 Deg and a new front coming in off the coast and begin raining around 10 pm. Snow levels are expected to be near 3000 ft. The rain is expected to be around 1.5” total for Thursday. Friday, another 1.8” is expected in the area. I’d expect flows to start ramping up sometime thursday afternoon (or late morning) and turbidity to increase. By Friday, anglers will most likely need to move up closer to Lewiston because of color. Flows sometime on Friday could get too high to fish flies below Douglas City if Weaver Creek blows out again. We’ll keep updating the report through the changing conditions. Again, if you’ll be on the river, flows are changing over the next couple of days so wading anglers and floaters should stay tuned to weather reports and stay stafe.
