Dec 23 - Trinity River Fishing Report

Dec 23 ~ It appears we may have some much needed moisture coming in the next week starting around the 26th. One report I saw estimated 2” of rain on the 26th and if it comes, will no doubt send fish up the river. Reports have usually been decent, 1/2 pounders throughout the day and the occassional adult. The river has been pretty quiet so right now so you’ll mostly have the place to yourself. Low and clear conditions persist, with a small and insignificant daily flow fluctuation. It seems the cold snap we were having is dissipating and daily highs should be in the high 40’s or low 50’s for the next week or so. If you’ll be out Christmas Day, we’re seeing a high of 60 which should be a nice change. After the 26th, expect rain over 50% and hovering around .5” per day. It’s perfect conditions but dress accordingly and be prepared.

The standard setups persist but with the incoming moisture and a little flow I would keep swinging a fly on the option table. My favorites this time of year with a little water color include the darker patterns in Black, blue, and purple. PRB, golden stones, psychos, and eggs are standard issue under an indicator and eats have ranged from light taps to full blown rips. I’ll include links to some other updated reports below.

Merry Christmas!
